Most entertainment lawyers learned the industry from a desk. Orlando R. Rodriguez learned it from a stage, a DJ booth, a production truck, and the contracts that made all of it possible — then went to law school.

Before earning his law degree, Orlando spent more than two decades working inside the entertainment and live-event industry as a professional DJ and emcee — performing at venues including Tavern on the Green and the Rainbow Room in New York City, and flown by Continental Airlines to Bogotá to emcee a corporate variety show. He built and operated a multi-unit entertainment company spanning DJ, photography, videography, and limousine services. He appeared in a national television commercial (Sprite). His family roots run through professional film and theater.
When he entered law school, he spent his final semester in a contract drafting and negotiation course focused on the music industry — taught by a Vice President of Sony Music. He learned to draft the agreements he had spent years signing. That combination — operator experience on one side of the table, legal training on the other — is what this practice is built on.
What We Handle
The Law Office of Orlando R. Rodriguez, LLC handles Entertainment & Media Law as transactional and advisory work grounded in New Jersey. We do not promise Hollywood-style courtroom drama. We offer careful, experienced counsel for the business behind the performance.
Performer, Talent & Vendor Agreements
Whether you are a DJ, band, photographer, videographer, emcee, actor, or event production company, the contract you sign before the gig determines everything that happens when something goes sideways. We draft and review performer agreements, vendor contracts, and talent services agreements with the fluency of someone who has lived on both sides of those deals.
Event & Venue Contracts; Production Riders
Venue agreements, technical riders, hold and deposit provisions, force majeure clauses, indemnification traps — we review and negotiate event and production contracts with working knowledge of what these terms mean in practice, not just in a legal treatise.
Production Company & Creative Venture Formation
We structure production companies, content studios, and creative ventures — including multi-entity ecosystems where IP holding companies, single-purpose production entities, and financing structures need to work together cleanly. We have handled the conflict-of-interest analysis where counsel also holds an ownership stake. We build the architecture before the cameras roll.
Licensing & IP Strategy for Creative Work
Protecting and licensing the creative work you own — music, footage, photographs, performance materials, brand identity — requires a strategy, not just a form agreement. We advise on licensing structures, rights clearances, and IP protection frameworks for creative professionals and entertainment businesses. Federal copyright and trademark registration is referred to or co-counseled with appropriate specialists.
Entertainment & Event Contract Disputes
When a deal goes wrong — a venue cancels, a vendor fails to perform, a licensing arrangement breaks down — we advise on your options and represent your interests in negotiation and dispute resolution. We handle entertainment- and event-related contract disputes in New Jersey courts and through alternative dispute resolution.
A Note on Scope
We are straightforward about what we handle and what we refer out. SAG-AFTRA union-scale matters and pure talent-agency licensing questions sit outside our lane unless handled with appropriate co-counsel. Federal trademark and copyright prosecution (registration with the USPTO or Copyright Office) is referred to specialists. All representations are within New Jersey jurisdiction unless otherwise specified. We will tell you honestly when a matter requires a different attorney — and we will help you find one.
If you are a performer, producer, creative entrepreneur, or entertainment business in New Jersey, call or text 973-536-2830 for a consultation. The business of entertainment deserves counsel that actually understands the business.
